Fixed penalty notice

A notice issued to someone who has committed an offence (typically, but not necessarily a traffic offence), which entitles them to pay a fixed sum of money as an alternative to being prosecuted for the offence.

I get the impression the more I look at the term that the offence has to be minor in order to directly stipulate a specific penalty, so parking and speeding is what springs to mind. unquote
